Which are the basic elements of an e-learning system?

Two different systems for learning content management and delivery have been used so far:
Learning Management System (LMS) and Content Management System (CMS).

A Learning Management System (LMS)

  • has the objective of simplifying the administration and management of the educational processes within an organized training service.
  • helps students to plan their educational progress, to communicate and collaborate with their peers
  • and helps teachers / tutors to personalize educational processes, supplying the most appropriate contents for every student by tracking and analyzing their performances.

The fundamental formative unit managed by a LMS is the Course, composed of Learning Objects (LO) and lessons.

The degree of reusability is applicable only to the Course concept (i.e. a course → multiple uses)
